Farewell Reading Rainbow

For this week’s Books In Motion we say goodbye to Reading Rainbow.  Reading Rainbow has been a pillar in educational TV programing and instrumental in teaching children  to have a love for books.  The show was canceled after 22 years due to lack of funding; sadly, there is funding for shows that teach children how to read, but not for teaching children to love to read. As part of a generation that grew up watching Reading Rainbow, I am deeply saddened by this move in educational programming.  LeVar Burton taught us that reading is more than a means to an end, it is something to be enjoyed, loved, and cherished. We will miss  you LeVar.
