I am a true fan of the Lit Wall! This past year, I thoroughly
enjoyed two stellar titles: The Life of Pi by Yann
Martel, and Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini. The
Life of Pi runs the gamut from action to suspense to campy
horror to tragicomedy, ensnaring the reader in multiple themes
such as 'Man vs. Nature' and 'Coming-of-Age'. These days,
more and more, it seems that all plots are recycled and innovation
is in short supply. This book, however, is a surprising "page-turner"
(did I really say that!?!?) and truly delightful from start
to finish. Have you ever watched the TV show "I Shouldn't
Be Alive" that aired in the recent past on the Discovery
Channel? THIS BOOK IS EVEN BETTER!!
The Kite Runner is an equally engrossing read!
This books is mostly set in Afghanistan, and traces events
from the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan in the 1980s to the
formation of the Taliban as a response to Russian occupation.
The politics are merely a backdrop to a heartfelt, heartbreaking,
and endearing novel about friendship, cowardice, betrayal,
redemption--and I'm just skimming the surface! This book is
epspecially appealing in light of current global events. And,
if like me, you are growing tired of the snowballing global
havoc, the central themes of this book are still very worthy.

Just posted an extremely rare title by Masanobu Fukuoka
of One Straw Revolution fame, called, Mu 1: The
God Revolution. Not only does this book delve deeply into
Fukuoka's Buddhist and spiritual beliefs, but it is translated
by Alfred Birnbaum, noted translator of Murakami's novels,
and--even more unusual--it is signed with a detailed drawing
by Fukuoka himself. Here's the listing
(until it sells!)
Just catalogued a scarce copy of "Excerpts from Parrot
Fever" by Jan Kerouac. This rare chapbook contains a
10,000 word extract from her unfinished novel, PARROT FEVER.
Published by Pica Pole Press in Santa Cruz and hand printed
by Norm Davis. Less than 175 copies were printed. Here's the
book
on ABE (at least, until it sells!). (Check our in-store price
for local purchases!)
Have you seen the Haggadah?
It's face-out in our Social Sciences case (here's the ABE listing,
at least until it sells!) Another wonderful new addition to
our rare books. Incredibly beautiful, decorated silver-plated
hinged covers, adorned with 4 polished turquoise stones. Silver
is bright and untarnished. Colorful illustrations on every page
by legendary illustrator Arthur Szyk. (Check our in-store
price for local purchases!)
"The Time Traveler's Wife" by Audrey Niffenegger
I always love books and movies about time travel and this one
did not disappoint! It is well written, engrossing and incredibly
touching. (Amy)
Im blown away by the new Joel Meyerowitz book, Aftermath,
his five-year photographic record of Ground Zero; it includes
over 400 photographs, plus commentary, from the perspective
of a native New Yorker. Both artistically and historically
profound, the faces of firefighters, police officers, and
construction workers contrast the violent, fleeting destruction
of the buildings to the slow, sorrowful, almost tender dismantling
of what remained. Be sure to check out some of his comments
and a few of the photographs
at Life Magazine, and come in to Logos to see the whole book;
we have a few copies that are autographed by Meyerowitz. (Idit)
For the first time in months, buying has slowed down a
bit. If you are interested in interrupting our brief breather,
and have been waiting for the chance to come down, give us
a call (831-427-5100, #6) and make an appointment to bring
in books and music to sell. We buy everyday!
